He was a teacher, minister and Professor of Latin for forty years at Conell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He was married to Ida Patterson. To this union two children were born, Luella Boyd, home at Mt. Vernon Iowa, and Robert Boyd, deceased. After the death of his first wife he married Mary Moody in 1874. To this union four children were born.
