"Stafford, Isaac
Bethlehem Township; Farmer. Was born in England in 1810. He was a blacksmith by trade. He came to this county in 1840, and was married to Miss Susannah Laycock, of England. They became the parents of three children, viz; Reuben, born in 1828, John and Isaac Jr. born in 1837. Mr Stafford enlisted in 1862, in company H, 122nd regiment O.V.I. and served three years. He was honorably discharged July 25, 1865. He was wounded at the battle of Winchester. Reuben Stafford was employed by the United States Marshall to arrest deserters. He was shot while attempting to make an arrest. Isaac Stafford Jr. enlisted in the 143rd Regiment O.V.I. for 100 days. He was married September 19, 1869, to Miss Sophia Lown ‎(SIC)‎, of this county. They became the parents of five children, viz; John L., William E., Myra F., Cora E., and Ida M."

In Civil war. Enlisted in the Union Army October 19, 1862 at the age of 46. ‎(Evidently not gi ving his correct age)‎ Following is the history of his Unit. The 122nd Regiment Infantry was o rganized at Zanesville, Ohio, September 30, 1862. Left Ohio for Parkersburg, W.Virginia, Oct. 23; thence moved to Clarksburg and to New Creek Nov. 15. Attached to Railroad Division, Wes t Virginia, to Jan.1863. Milroy's Command, Winchester, Va., 8th Army Corps, Middle Department , to Feb. 1863. 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 8th Army Corps. to June 1863. Elliot's Command, 8t h Army Corps, to July, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 3rd Army Corps, Army of the Potomac , to Mar.1864. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 6th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, and Army of th e Shenandoah, Middle Military Division, to June 1865.
SERVICE: Duty at New Creek, Virginia, Nov.15 to Dec. 28, 1862. Expedition up the south branc h of Potomac River Dec. 28, 1862, to Jan. 1, 1863. Moved to Romney W. Va. and duty there unti l Mar. 17, 1863. Skirmish near Romney Feb. 16. Moved to Winchester March 17, and duty in th e vicinity till June. Reconnissance toward Wardensville and Strasburg April 20. Battle of Win chester June 13-15. Retreat to Harper's Ferry June 15-17. Garrisoned at Maryland Heights til l July 1. Guard stores to Georgetown, thence moved to Frederick, Md., July 1-5. R egiment lost 7 Officers in battle, 86 Enlisted in battle, and 137 to disease.
Moses L. Lower was in Company I of this Regiment, his brother Enos J. Lower was in Company G . Both were POW's and Enos died as a POW
